    i guess i would add an extra comment on the flashback – an obvious choice to connect to the character; he is so happy, then. It’s an easy way for author to emphasise current disaffected situation? In creative story writing, i’ve been suggesting to students that they adda flashback for precisely this reason – provide some info for audience as to why the character might be feeling the way they do now.
